Meet yTax. Try the alpha.
The public release, ytax-facts alpha-0.1.0, brings together the federal tax-year 2025 rules, the calculation engine and ytax-prep. Ready-to-run Windows and macOS packages make it possible to explore the workflow with the included example households.
Start with an example, see how documents become inputs and follow the results through to filled forms.

What is included
The XML tax dictionary: the federal rules for tax year 2025, the Fact Graph engine that runs them, the XML-to-JavaScript dictionary generator and the printed-form field maps.
ytax-prep: the engine as an application on your own computer, for Windows and macOS. It works with a folder you choose: it reads supported tax documents, asks for missing information and fills supported IRS forms. Packages include example households to help you get started.
Source, checksums and license notices are available with the release. State returns are planned.

Download integrity and unsigned software
The packages are not yet publisher-signed. Compare the downloaded package's SHA-256 with the published checksum. A mismatch is a reason not to run the file. A match verifies agreement with the published file; it is not a safety certificate or a substitute for publisher authentication.
Because the packages are unsigned, the operating system asks before opening one the first time. On Windows, "Windows protected your PC" offers More info, then Run anyway. On macOS, Control-click ytax-prep and choose Open; without an Open button, Open Anyway is in System Settings > Privacy & Security. Whether to open unsigned software is your decision.
Checks behind the packages
Each package is built from the release tag, twice, and the two builds must match byte for byte. Packaged self-tests compute a sample return and check the engine pin and the About and license documents.
Automated package checks cover Windows Server 2022, and macOS 14 on Apple silicon, both natively and using Rosetta. A Windows package made by the same build script has also been used on Windows 11. The macOS package has not yet been tried on a person's own Mac.
These checks concern the packaged software and its sample workflow. They are not certification of tax correctness or evidence that every supported operating-system version has been manually tested.
Source and license
Source is available under the terms included in the release. Original yTax contributions use PolyForm Strict 1.0.0; upstream and third-party components retain their own notices. Public source availability does not imply unrestricted reuse. The release notes give the version, changes and known limitations. Software evaluation and licensing inquiries: info@ytax.ai.
