Building a more understandable tax engine

I started yTax with a simple belief: tax calculations should be easier to examine, explain and improve.

As a retired software engineer, I build yTax with AI. AI reads and analyzes the tax laws and regulations, and writes them as code: the XML tax rules the engine runs. Independent AI agents then test and verify the results. The work now brings together a federal tax dictionary, a calculation engine and an application that runs on your own computer.

The public alpha makes that work available for people to explore. It is also an invitation to help shape the next stage.

Tax professionals bring practical interpretations and worked examples. Engineers bring testing, security and integration experience. People trying the application bring the questions and tax situations that matter to them. A focused contribution is welcome; nobody needs to review the entire system.

My goal is to grow yTax into a sustainable foundation for federal and state personal income-tax calculations, useful both directly and through other software. The first release is a beginning we can build on.
